Our First Erasmus Meeting - North Macedonia

    Within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme “Learn Outside, Smile and Shine”, a group of teachers from Greece participated in a series of educational activities in North Macedonia focusing on outdoor learning and environmental education. 

    During the visit, the Greek team carried out an outdoor lesson at the host school. The activity took place in the school garden, where the teachers presented a learning activity about producers and consumers in ecosystems and discussed their importance for environmental balance. The lesson aimed to demonstrate how environmental concepts can be taught through experiential learning in natural settings. 

    Another highlight of the programme was a workshop organized in cooperation with the scout troop “Mirko Mileski”, titled Orientation in Nature Using a Compass. During this activity, participants were introduced to basic orientation techniques using a map and a compass, learning practical ways to determine direction and navigate in nature. 

    The programme also included cultural and educational visits. The participants visited the historic city of Ohrid, where they explored the old town and the Ohrid Fortress, gaining insight into the history and cultural heritage of the area. 

    Finally, the group took part in a full-day visit to Skopje, where they toured the Historical Museum and other important landmarks of the capital. These activities complemented the educational goals of the programme by combining learning, cultural exchange and international cooperation. 

    The Erasmus+ programme “Learn Outside, Smile and Shine” offered a valuable opportunity for teachers to exchange ideas and good practices on outdoor education while strengthening collaboration between schools from different countries.

    This is a wonderful example of how outdoor learning can bring environmental education to life. The activities organized during the mobility in North Macedonia clearly show how experiential learning in nature helps teachers and students better understand ecological concepts such as producers and consumers and the importance of environmental balance.
    The collaboration with the scout troop and the orientation workshop using a compass are excellent examples of practical, hands-on learning. At the same time, the cultural visits to Ohrid and Skopje enriched the experience and strengthened intercultural understanding between the participating countries.
    Congratulations to all partners involved in the Erasmus+ project “Learn Outside, Smile and Shine” for promoting innovative teaching methods, cooperation and meaningful learning beyond the classroom! 🌿🌍

Learning Beyond the Classroom: Our Erasmus+ Experience in Heraklion, Greece
